A drive belt has a length equal to that of synthetic flexible material or rubber that is joined to create a loop. Drive belts or v belts are primarily used to join two pulleys together. The V & Wedge Belts have a design that enables them to be fitted on the outer edge of the pulley. When you apply tension to the belt, friction is created, which then converts the friction into motion.

How to Choose the Correct Belt?

One way to ensure that you choose the correct size is to check if the drive belt has any manufacturer’s part numbers printed on the belt. If that is not possible, you must measure the belt in two ways. The drive belt size is determined by two things that are width and length.
Measuring the Length
You can calculate the length of the V wedge belts by measuring the inner circumference of the belt. You can do this using a specialist V belt measuring tool or cloth tape. It is not adequate to use a steel ruler or tape for measurements. Once you get the circumference of the belt, make the tape strength giving you the required length.
Measuring the Width
By looking at the cross-section of a belt, you will find out that a v or wedge belt features trapezoidal-shaped teeth on the inner side of the belt. To measure the width, you need to measure across the top and height of the Vee. The two measurements are related to the section size.
